MEET THE PASTOR
Jack Gatlin, and his wife, Wendy, returned to Maye River Baptist Church in February 2016 when he responded to their call to come back and lead the church that he considers his home. Jack grew up in Georgia and graduated from College Park High School before serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. After responding to God's call to become a minister, he was licensed at The Rock Baptist Church and ordained at Perkerson Baptist Church both in Georgia.
He pastored at Perkerson Baptist Church from 1985 through 1989. Before becoming the Pastor at Perkerson, he served as their Minister of Evangelism. After leaving Perkerson, he was Pastor at Mullins Ford Baptist Church, Martin, Georgia (1989-1992), Doves Creek Baptist Church, Elberton, Georgia (1993-1996), First Baptist Church of High Falls, Jackson, Georgia (1996-2002), and previously pastored at Maye River Baptist Church (2002-2008) before leaving to become Associational Missionary for Kimball Baptist Association where he served from 2008-2010. Jack has returned to Maye River after pastoring at McDonald Baptist Church, Sylvania, Georgia from 2010-2015.
Dr. Gatlin graduated from Andersonville Baptist Theological Seminary with a Doctorate in Theology. He attended the Southern Baptist Center for Biblical Studies where he received a Masters in Ministry and a Bachelor in Ministry. He also graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with an Associate in Divinity, and attended Billy Graham School of Evangelism in 1983 and 1986.
Jack has served as a Southern Baptist Pastor since 1985. He served both at Kimball Baptist Association (1997-2002) and Savannah River Baptist Association (2005-2008) in numerous positions including Moderator, Vice-Moderator, Finance Committee, Chairman of Resolutions Committee. He has also served in leadership roles as Director, Royal Ambassadors, The Rock Baptist Church, Director, Brotherhood, Perkerson Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia, and Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Conference, Beaver Lodge, Canada.
Jack and Wendy married in 1963 and have a son, Mark and a daughter, Leslie and are the proud grandparents of five grandchildren.
